Evaluation / Maintenance / Appraisals of Antique & Modern Carriages
May 18, 2008
|
The Carriage Barn Equestrian Center, in Newton, New Hampshire, is pleased to host a day of Evaluation, Maintenance, and Appraisal of antique and modern horse drawn vehicles on May 18th.
The Carriage Barn will host this event in its 1890s era restored antique carriage barn, which was moved to its present site from a gentlemen’s farm in Weston, Massachusetts. As a special treat, the Andover, NH Lions’ road coach will be on display as well as other antique vehicles from the 1700s and 1800s. This vehicle is a very rare example of a road coach, which were manufactured in Concord, New Hampshire. We believe this is the only road coach still able to be used in parades and other special functions. The 5th Massachusetts Battery will be bringing a limber and cannon and set up a Union camp with a uniformed crew for the day. We will also have a 1936 Rolls Royce with an ash frame on display.
Our guest speakers / appraisers will be Jerry Rider and Jerry Trapani. Mr. Rider has collected and restored carriages since 1968. He has been a member of the Carriage Association of America since 1968 and has served on various Association committees, as well as serving as President from 2004 to 2007. Jerry has restored over 50 vehicles in his own shop including about 25 Brewster coaches and carriages. He has presented programs about vehicle identification, restoration, and vehicle accessories at several conferences.
Jerry Trapani has had extensive experience over the last 20 years with various types of horse drawn vehicles. He and his wife Rita started the Paumanok Driving Club on Long Island, NY and have been very active in the American Driving Society & the Carriage Association of America. They have been involved with pairs, tandems, four in hands and have participated in many clinics throughout the US. They have won several carriage restoration awards. Their current projects include two beautiful sleighs and a full size carousel horse.
Anyone interested in restoration, preservation & maintenance of antique carriage, fire apparatus, military or any other horse-drawn vehicles are encouraged to attend.

Northeast Miniature Horse Club & Rescue
American Miniature Horse Association Shows
May 24 & 25, 2008 |
|
The Northeast Miniature Horse Club and Rescue (NMHC) will be holding two American Miniature Horse Association pointed shows at the Carriage Barn on Saturday May 24 and Sunday May 25. Stalls will be available for the weekend. Each day will have two AMHA carded judges judging a full schedule of classes including halter, showmanship, obstacle, jumping and driving classes for Open, Amateur, and Youth exhibitors. Included also will be NMHC's unique Mentored Beginner classes, where someone new to showing can enter the ring with a mentor, who will be provided for them if needed. There will also be the very unique and beautiful Liberty class, where Miniature Horses are set free to perform 'at liberty' to specially selected music. Having 4 judges over one weekend gives area exhibitors the chance to earn 4 sets of points toward AMHA World Show qualification, and Honor Roll. This is also the first weekend of the season for club members to accumulate points toward NMHC's Year End Championships.
You do not need to be a member of NMHC to participate in the show, but your horses must be registered with the American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA). We are expecting exhibitors from all over New England and New York to take advantage of the opportunity to show under 4 judges, and we hope to have at least one World Show judge among them.
As always, the Northeast Club show will benefit not only their own Miniature Horse Rescue Fund, but other worthy equine causes. This year The Carriage Barn's Therapeutic Riding & Driving Programs and the New Hampshire Animal Rescue League will share in the profits of the show.
Class Lists and entry forms will be available on the NMHC web site www.northeastminis.org early Spring 2008, or for more information, please feel free to contact president Cindy Moses at mochaminis@comcast.net.
