Therapeutic Riding Program Expands

July 23, 2002--The Carriage Barn Equestrian Center is pleased to announce the expansion of its Therapeutic Riding program with Ms. Yvette Rose, CTRS. Yvette specializes in teaching recreational and therapeutic riding and horsemanship skills to all ages and abilities.

The program serves several surrounding communities, including Amesbury, Merrimac, Newburyport, Newbury, and West Newbury, Massachusetts, Newton, Kingston, East Kingston, Plaistow, South Hampton, Sandown, Atkinson and Hampstead, New Hampshire, as well as southern Maine. Just ten minutes from I-495 or I-95, it is an easy drive to a wonderful retreat surrounded by knowledgeable and supportive staff and volunteers.

Ms. Rose is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with over fifteen years of experience in teaching Therapeutic Riding. Yvette received her Bachelor’s Degree from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in 1989. She completed the Instructor Training Course at Cheff Center for the Handicapped in Augusta, Michigan in 1990. She is also certified through the nationally recognized North American Riding for the Handicapped Association as a Therapeutic Riding Instructor. Yvette has been licensed as a Riding Instructor through the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture since 1992. Ms. Rose has worked at Ironstone Farm in Andover, MA as a Therapeutic Riding Instructor since 1992, as well as other therapeutic riding and recreational programs throughout New England.

Yvette’s experience as a clinical Recreational Therapist has provided a wealth of knowledge about disabilities and teaching functional skills to those individuals with challenges. She has direct experience with individuals with cognitive challenges such as Pervasive Development Disabilities, ADD, ADHD, Autism, Down’s Syndrome, Mental Retardation and learning disabilities in a therapeutic riding setting. She has also worked with individuals with Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Stroke, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s Disease, and Traumatic Brain Injury, providing Hippotherapy, back riding and remedial vaulting as a basis to developing equestrian skills.

There are still limited openings for the program’s Summer Session, which runs through the end of August. We are also currently taking applications for the Fall Session, which begins September 9th.
